Today I had the best get-together with a friend and her children. I consider our relationship to be a "peanut butter and jelly" friendship. What I mean by that is that I don't have to worry about what I'm making for lunch. It can simply be peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (although it was chicken nuggets today). We don't even think twice about it. No stress about her coming over, none. We could care less about what each other's houses look like when we visit. If I'm dressed up slightly (for me) like I was today...nicer jeans and top and an actual necklace, she might first wonder, "Why are you dressed up?" Because a t-shirt and sweatpants would have been more than fine. We can talk about anything and not have to worry about how we come across or our words getting minced. If it had been a while since we'd seen each other, we simply pick up where we left off. We laugh...a lot. Our kids actually might play well together, which is an added bonus.
A friendship where we're just enjoying each other during a typical, everyday kind of day. We might do an exercise video together. Or cook something. Or just sit...with no agenda. So easygoing and casual. To just spend time together without any expectations on each other.
I have a few PB& J friendships in my life...I think they're the best kind.

Absolutely nothing better:) Even if the peanut butter is a little gooey or maybe crusty in the wrong places ( ha ha). It is the company that matters.Lindsay - Fri January 22, 2010, 7:26 pm

They are the best. The older I get I think the more 'real' my everyday friendships become. Thanks for sharing your take on these type of great relationships.
