It's been a while....
Here is Spiderman, aka Alex, with his friend Nolan a few weeks ago.  Alex really enjoyed wearing Nolan's costume and truly got into character.  His mom and I laughed about how his web-shooting was so much more powerful with the costume on.  It was pretty funny.

Alex and Nolan, revealed.

My mom got Alex some suckers for doing so well with going on the potty regularly.  Being oblivious, she did not realize she got him Harry Potter "blood" suckers (written all over the package and a lovely picture of the sucker dripping with "blood.").  It was a little disturbing and gruesome watching him eat this sucker. Yuck!!

Alex and I went to see Dan Zanes (popular singer who knows how to rock it out with the kids, often appears on Disney).  He actually came to a theater in Lafayette, which is pretty big...for Lafayette.  We were sitting in the lower balcony and having an okay time, but the fun really started when we went down in front of the stage for the dance party halfway through the show.  Good times!

Alex and I were very lucky to have some good friends visit us for the day on Friday.  When we used to live up north we got together once a month with my friends and their kids and rotated play dates at each other's houses.  All four of us used to work together in Goshen and had kids around the same time and then either stayed home or worked part time after that.  I think so highly of my Goshen girls (even though none of them work nor live in Goshen now, what the heck?) and it meant a lot to me that they drove 5 hours round trip with 2 year olds to come see us (not an easy feat).  Very sweet and thoughtful.  Here are the kids: Kaleb, Ella, Alex, and Carter

The moms: Jennifer, Shanda, Angie, and me  (By the way, when we used to get together we would always attempt to take a picture of the kids.  This was the first time we had gotten a group shot of the four of us, thanks to our budding (and behaviorally-challenged) photographer on hand, Alex!

Should I tell this story?  Where do I begin?  We are refrigerator magnet people, people!  And when we moved into our house with the lovely stainless steel appliances and unpacked our refrigerator magnets only for them to slide down the front of the fridge, we were distraught!!  (Who knew stainless steel appliances were made to maintain that look and not be cluttered with magnets?  agh!  Not us!).  So, something had to be done.  Mike wanted to just buy a magnetic dry erase board....like what you would find in an office...to display Alex's art work in our kitchen.  I had other ideas...specifically painting this wall in our kitchen with magnetic paint.  We butt heads about this for the last 2 months, but in the end I (unfortunately, it turns out...for Mike) prevailed.  We bought a quart of the magnetic paint, which is black, of course and he painted 2 coats.  Not strong enough to hold most of our magnets.  Bought another quart...so now 4 coats later still not what we needed it to be.  2 whole quarts and 4 more coats later...yes, that is 8 coats total of the magnetic paint, it now is the magneticity?  (that's not a word) we needed it to be.  Frustrating?  Heck yeah.  Tedious, annoying, dumb idea...um, yeah.  The bottom line is that we tried to cover too large of an area with this special paint and should have just done one concentrated size rectangle, or square.  So, after the 8 coats of black paint, we then needed to match our kitchen color, which took 3 coats of yellow to cover adequately.  Do the math...Mike did 11 coats total on this wall, unheard of, no???  I felt awful that this project (which we thought would not be a big deal) ended up being a nightmare.  Mike, the wonderful husband that he is, persevered and didn't complain (much).  Thank you, dear, you did a wonderful job!!!  Oh, and by the way, HE set up this picture, not me! I heard him digging around in the magnetic letters (he was actually disrupting my show and I complained) and said he couldn't find the letter "J."  So, I unknowingly helped him stage this picture.  He framed me...payback for the blood, sweat, and tears he put into this wall...I'm thinkin.'

You guys crack me up. You need to send the JERK wall with accompanying story to a parenting magazine. What we parents do for our fabulous offspring.

I thought Alex took a great picture...couldn't tell it was taken by a three-year old.

Sorry about the suckers! So glad the magnets are working - and the wall does look great! You do have a wonderful husband/daddy!!!!!

I LOVE IT! Nevertheless, the magnetic wall looks magnificent. All that hard work paid off!

Blood suckers or magnetic walls...where do I begin?

I LOVE the magnetic wall idea-so funny! I wouldn't have thought to paint over the "black" with "desirable" color though-looks nice, love the blue edging accent (he, he).

But the winner goes to the "jerk" magnets. This is so my house-but I usually write dorky stuff like "mom rules" or "pchef rules" (and yes we have 2 of a few of the letters which helps make great phrases).

Anyway, hope you are well and hope to make it back in time for our study weds.
