Batter up!
Alex and I have baseball fever. We've been playing every day for the last week. We have a baseball tee but he refuses to use it. Instead, I pitch (underhand) and he bats. He gets better everyday. I bought some softball sized wiffle balls but he can also hit normal sized wiffle balls and, much to my dismay, a smaller, harder plastic ball that came with a toy pitching machine. I've banned those balls from our game. Yesterday, after hitting a bunch of grounders all over our field (backyard), he made perfect contact with a small ball. It came right back at me. I was standing too close, the ball was too fast and it hit me right in the mouth! I had the biggest fat lip ever! So, those balls are BANNED.
After I recovered from my on the field injury, he went on to hit 6 balls in a row. The video below is from the first day hitting. He's making contact a lot more now. I still need to work with him on his swing. He uses one hand. But take notice. He's bats left and throws right just like his old man. :-) I read that sometimes you learn to bat by watching or emulating others so I guess that's why he bats left. Amy takes offense to this for some reason but she knows very little about baseball. "It'll give him an extra step towards first base."
