Bullet points
I would like to blog more often, but never really feel like I have all that much to say about one particular topic (not that creative or detailed of a writer), so I wonder if bullet points might be more appropriate for me.  Here goes it....

  • A Starbucks gift card is a great gift for me (hint, hint...just kidding).  I can make it last quite a while and it's a real treat for me to enjoy a drink from there.  Today Alex and I had some errands to run and my first stop was the Starbucks drive-thru (have a gift card from Mother's Day).  I got a Mocha Frappuccino LIght Blended Coffee...yum.  Of course, Alex immediately started in with his, "Mama, mama," letting me know he would like it.  Looks like a milkshake, I imagine.  Our next stop was just across the street and I tried to offer him a sip (just a sip...don't worry, I don't give my kid coffee...I knew he wouldn't actually like the taste of it!) before I took him out of his car seat.  He did not want me to hold it though and I refused to let him hold it on his own...he's not wasting my Frappuccino and making a mess!  So, then he was unhappy and made it known in Staples.  Eventually he did take a sip...I was ready with a wipe when it spilled out of his mouth.

  • I am reading The Reading Group by Elizabeth Noble for book club.  I'm enjoying it so far. I read one of her other books, The Friendship Test, a while back.  She is British and, therefore, different terminology and slang is used, but I've read quite a few books of British authors and generally enjoy them (I love Bridget Jones).  The current book I'm reading is centered around a reading group (hee haw), but really more about the members' lives, relationships, etc.  Sometimes I have a hard time keeping track of who is who in the beginning (especially when there are a lot of female characters around the same age), but I like that this author puts a Character Glossary in the front of the book for the reader to refer to, which I have done often while still in the early stages of the book.

  • I picked a ton of strawberries on Sunday (sans Alex, more productive that way) and felt very domestic when I made a couple of different kinds of strawberry freezer jam...so easy and good.  I also froze a ton to use for smoothies, strawberry shortcake, cereal, etc. later.  A friend suggested homemade strawberry margaritas, which sound awesome!

  • Swimming lessons--I'm not going to go into too much detail about this, but Alex was signed up for two weeks (every day for 10 days/half hour sessions) of Mommy & Me swimming lessons through our Parks and Recreation Dept.  Outdoor pool/heated.  VERY, very cheap. Today was his second session...and looks like we're going to have to hold off on the swimming lessons for a little bit.  Yesterday, the first session, was his very first time in a pool (I know...that's bad..oh well).  He's having a very hard time!!  He's overwhelmed, scared, freezing, and just not adjusting like the other kids.  I know it's only been 2 sessions, but I just need to familiarize my kid on my own with the pool this summer and I think we'll take lessons a little later.  He's becoming very disruptive and I hate to see him so upset...just don't think he's quite ready for the lessons.

  • I think I sprained the big toe on my right foot.  It really hurts.  First I kept telling Mike I think it's broken and he's like, how did you break it?  Well, you would think there would be an obvious incident when one gets a broken toe (and nothing was jumping out at me)...plus I looked up the symptoms of a broken toe and, yeah, I don't have one...but then looked up sprained toe and I think this is the case.  Honestly, I don't remember it hurting yesterday at all.  I literally got out of bed this morning and it hurt...so either I had a really wild night's sleep OR I may have sprained it while in the pool yesterday.  At one point we were walking around in a circle in the water (to the song, Wheels on the Bus) and I was suddenly in fairly deep water and walked on my tip toes a little bit..I bet that's it.  I love how when I looked it up though, one of the risk factors is poor coordination...that's so me. Surprised I haven't sprained my toe sooner.  I really should be applying ice to it, or something. Maybe I'll have Mike do that.  He's not a big fan of my toes...he thinks they look like fingers, they don't!  OOh...I just read (as far as treatment) to keep the injured foot raised above the level of your heart (elevate it) for 48 hours....hahahahaha, yeah right.  Although resting in bed for 2 whole days sounds quite nice, I don't think it's going to happen. Bums me out though because Alex and I pretty much go on daily power stroller walks and it just hurts too bad at the moment.  Mike thinks I'm nuts and my mom thinks I always have weird things wrong with me...true.

I like the blogging style of your bullets...very Amy. :) Good luck with the swimming...I am 29 years old and still can't swim.

I like it when you blog! :-)

I hope your toe is feeling better and I think it was wise of you to back off of the swimming lessons...I would have done the EXACT same thing!

I am reading a book, one of the Shopaholic Series and it's based in London, so I know exactly what you're talking about regarding terminology and slang! It makes it a little more difficult to read! I love hearing about what other books people are reading!

You go with your strawberry freezing!!!!! You're so domesticated!
